Marjorie Elaine Harvey, Founder and President of The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, is a firm believer of the adage that “To Whom Much is Given, Much is Required”. It is with this thought in mind that she has become an advocate for the educational, health and welfare of children and young women worldwide.
“Girls Who Rule the World” Mentoring Weekend, Mentoring Girls, Creating Leaders, was developed by Mrs. Harvey as a response to the exposure of negative images and environments impacting the futures of our young girls. Georgia has the highest number of high school drop outs and the third highest prostitute rate amongst teenage girls nationwide. When Mrs. Harvey became aware of sobering statistics such as these, she knew that she had to take immediate and sizeable action to help our teenage girls.
This initiative is designed to increase the awareness and reinforce the “life skills” needed to overcome teenage obstacles and establish a path to success. The three day weekend includes a holistic mentoring program that addresses the social, emotional, educational and cultural needs of girls ages 13-18, as well as countless opportunities to speak candidly with community and corporate leaders, role models, and advocates.
From the thousands of applications received annually for the program, Mrs. Harvey accepts a diverse group of 100 young girls. She is committed to the success of the young women that she takes into the program, and believes that through the impact made on the mentees each year, she can in turn make a measurable difference in our communities, one girl at a time.
